Oscar Murillo was born in 1986 in Colombia and moved to London with his family when he was ten years old. His practice incorporates a variety of techniques and media including painting, performance, drawing, collaborative works, sculpture and sound, often using recycled materials and fragments collected from his studio. Many of his works undergo multiple processes in the studio before being exhibited. Murillo’s work reflects his own experience of displacement, and the social fallout of globalisation. VIOLENT AMNESIA, held at Kettle's Yard in 2019, includes painting, installation, sound and live performance, taking place in the galleries and across Kettle’s Yard. The exhibition is his first solo exhibition at a UK public institution since his acclaimed 2013 exhibition at South London Gallery.
In May 2019, Oscar Murillo was nominated for the 2019 Turner Prize.
